Charlie Crocker acquired his family vineyards, the basis of the fabulous Crocker and Starr wines, in St. Helena during the early 1970's. The property has been a family home base ever since, and its continual development and improvement has been a family labor of love. Born in San Francisco, Charlie has known and delighted in the Napa Valley since the early 1950's. His business career has been extensive and has taken him all over the world. He has started, managed and grown two public companies, and has run a successful private investment firm. He has also developed a number of Napa Valley vineyards over the years, all sold to major wineries.
Charlie and Pam share a love of wines made in the subtle style of Bordeaux, and the two partners are dedicated to producing some of the finest wine in the world.
As the result of a lifetime love of fine wines,
Pam Starr has been making some of the best wines in the Napa Valley for over 25 years. She honed her techniques while working at Sonoma-Cutrer, Edna Valley, Carmenet, and truly excelled at Spottswoode in the mid-'90s. Her current portfolio also includes cult favorites Gemstone, Adastra, and Garric Cellars.
In 1997 Pam founded a partnership with Charlie Crocker with the goal of crafting a small production of exquisite wines. The three wines are: the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon "Stone Place", the Estate Cabernet Franc, and the Sauvignon Blanc. A total of only 2400 cases of these wines is made each year.
Pam comments:"Crocker & Starr is an authentic piece of history linked to the past by the property's 140 years of grape growing, and its 1870's stone buildings, but grounded in the future by our use of the most modern best practices in wine making and our understanding of today's entire grape to bottle philosophy. I look forward to building my reputation for perfection with Crocker and Starr wines in the years to come."
Crocker & Starr's Business Coordinator is
Marcy Gretz. She can be seen at the office with Jake or Oscar (her faithful Golden Retrievers) at her side. No day is the same in the office for Marcy. It reminds her of the fast-paced daily newspapers where she has worked before her recent career-change into the wine industry. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she gets upset when people leave the "H" off the city name.
Favorite pastimes include cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt Panthers' football team. Marcy has also lived in San Diego before moving to Napa 12 years ago and does not follow the Chargers, but does have a fondness for fish tacos and long beach walks at sunset with her latte. Marcy has been married for almost 20 years to her overly-opinionated husband John.
