‘Early’, ‘Excellent’ and ‘Even’ can very accurately describe the 2013 growing season. A warm, dry spring brought about an early bud break, promoting canopy vigor and healthy berry size. Reports of an August 1st harvest, one of the earliest on record, created a buzz of excitement throughout the Valley that continued fluidly throughout October. Clusters saw a luxurious amount of hang time giving the grapes plenty of opportunity to develop rich flavors, resolved tannins, and wonderful acidity to achieve perfect balance. The 2013 vintage saw slightly higher yields of textbook quality fruit. The harvest at Crocker & Starr was like the big rolling sea; waves of fruit perfectly synched to the completion of prior fermentations before the next wave of grapes rolled in.

Pam Starr has knocked it out of the park yet again with the sixth vintage of our estate Malbec blend called ‘The Casali’ 6th Edition. The dark inky color with a florescent purple rim draws you in. Big aromas of Madagascar vanilla, exotic spice, and serious black plum hit you on first approach. Sweet tobacco, dark berry compote, and a surprise element of beef jerky are savory and delicious on the lips. Substantial and silky tannins through the mid-palate build with each subsequent taste while still maintaining finesse. A beautiful dark chocolate and sweet licorice finish. Seamless transition from the first moment the wine hits your lips through the finish and beyond. Drink now with decanting, yet age worthy for sure!
