2017 Growing Season…Mother Nature threw a curve ball, Winemakers catch it
Mother nature waved her power at us in 2017 making it difficult to see the ‘good’ of the growing season. Winter floods, cold spring rain, three intense heat waves, and ultimately the tragic fall firestorm cloud our vision of our resilient vines. The true nature of vines is told in the beautiful content of our 2017 wines. Our Sauvignon Blanc yields were about 30% lower than average due to spring shatter. The vine vigor challenged vineyard management to make a few more passes removing extra growth. As mid August approached, the grapes achieved optimal ripeness without excessive sugars. The grapes were harvested well before the heat waves, preserving the delicious natural acidity, fruit freshness and luscious aromatics…great Sauvignon Blanc traits which established our track record for producing this great wine.
