Vintage Notes

In a few words, the 2015 harvest was high in quality, low in yields and early from beginning to end. The growing season began early after a relatively warm and dry winter. Warm temperatures prevailed into spring which lead to early bud break and bloom. Cooler spring temperatures during this stage prolonged the flowering period causing somewhat uneven fruit set; ultimately foretelling much lower yields throughout the region. Harvest at Crocker & Starr began with the picking of our Sauvignon Blanc on August 15th and wrapped by early October, one of the earliest harvests on record. While the persistent drought continued to be a concern throughout the region, 75% of the average annual rainfall was captured, and access to our well water and rain collections on the property positioned the Crocker Estate to provide the water needed for its vines throughout the season. The 2015 harvest was early to arrive and the EARLIEST to end and received high praise from winemakers throughout the region including the C&S team.

Tasting Notes

The 2015 once again showcases Pam Starr’s Sauvignon Blanc as singularly ‘Napa Style’. The estate fruit evokes tropical aromas of guava and mango, as they mingle with fleshy pear in the glass. A twist of lemon peel, meringue coupled with vanilla and a touch of allspice. The mouthfeel has dreamy viscosity and refreshing acidity and finishes with a stony minerality for a long and mouthwatering finish. Appellation:  St Helena Crocker Estate (87%) and Oak Knoll Las Trancas (13%)
Composition:  100% Sauvignon Blanc
Fermentation:  100% whole cluster pressed. 88% barrel fermented (68% stainless steel, 20% used French Oak) and 12% concrete egg fermented. Aged sur lees post fermentation for 8-9 months.
